The Hornets are on their longest winning streak in decades as they look to tie a 28-year-old franchise record on Monday night against the conference-leading Detroit Pistons. Over the last 15 games, Charlotte owns the NBA’s best record at 12-3, along with the league’s top offensive rating, rebound percentage, and net rating during that stretch, while the Pistons have been the best defensive team in the conference all season. Charlotte’s starting five of LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, Kon Knueppel, Miles Bridges, and Moussa Diabaté has been the driving force behind the stellar play, posting a 139.6 offensive rating and an astonishing 30.6 net rating in the 25 games they’ve been on the floor together. The Hive will be rocking as the Hornets look to make history by tying the franchise record with All-Star Weekend approaching. Knueppel — who will be participating in the Three-Point Contest — was named NBA Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for the third straight time, and head coach Charles Lee was named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for January.

Industrial electronic rock icons Nine Inch Nails are making their first return to the city in more than a decade, since 2014 at PNC Music Pavilion. Formed in 1988 and fronted by Trent Reznor alongside frequent collaborator Atticus Ross, the Grammy-winning, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame–inducted band is known for its intense, multi-sensory live shows and influential industrial sound, with multi-Platinum albums including Pretty Hate Machine, The Downward Spiral, and The Fragile. Reznor and Ross have also built an acclaimed film-scoring career, earning Oscars, Grammys, Golden Globes, and an Emmy, most recently releasing the TRON: Ares original motion picture soundtrack. The Charlotte date is part of the band’s sold-out Peel It Back Tour, which has already packed arenas across Europe, the UK, and major North American cities. German-Iraqi electronic music record producer Boys Noize will open the show.

Carolina Theatre’s film series celebrating Black cinema, continues this month with the 2006 musical drama Dreamgirls, centered on the Motown record label in Detroit. Adapted from the 1981 Broadway musical of the same name, Dreamgirls draws inspiration from the culturally transformative label and its superstar act, The Supremes. Starring Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Hudson, Eddie Murphy, and Beyoncé Knowles, with Danny Glover, Anika Noni Rose, and Keith Robinson in supporting roles, the film chronicles the evolution of American R&B and soul music in the ’60s and ’70s through the eyes of a Detroit girl group called The Dreams. At the 79th Academy Awards, Dreamgirls received eight nominations, winning Best Supporting Actress for Hudson and Best Sound Mixing. The film also won three Golden Globe Awards, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

Coming off his Grammy Award win for Best Opera Recording for Heggie: Intelligence, Charlotte Symphony Orchestra Music Director Kwamé Ryan returns to lead the orchestra in Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 at Belk Theater. Recorded with the Houston Grand Opera, Ryan conducted the world premiere production in October 2023 and led the subsequent recording of the opera. A Trinidadian-Canadian, Ryan began his tenure as the 12th Music Director of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra in the 2024-25 season, serving as Music Director Designate the previous year. Composer Gabriel Kahane joins the orchestra to perform his Pattern of the Rail, a song cycle inspired by his cross-country train journey following the 2016 Presidential election, before the program concludes with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5.

Dickerson in his debut, Dickerson was previously a cinematographer best known for his frequent collaborations with Spike Lee on films such as She’s Gotta Have It (1986), School Daze (1988), Do the Right Thing (1989), Mo’ Better Blues (1990), Jungle Fever (1991), and Malcolm X (1992). Written by Dickerson and Gerard Brown, the story follows four friends (Bishop, Q, Raheem, and Steel) as they navigate life in Harlem while trying to gain respect in their neighborhood. The film was Tupac Shakur’s breakout acting role, with his portrayal of the volatile Bishop earning critical praise.
