Celebrate the spirit of jazz at The Bill Hanna Legacy Jazz Session, every Monday night at Petra’s. A tribute to the late, great Bill Hanna, who was widely known as the godfather of Charlotte jazz. The weekly event brings together some of the city’s best musicians for a night of improvisational performances.

A one-of-a-kind interactive gaming experience, Monopoly Lifesized: Travel Edition transforms the iconic board game into a 70-minute adventure at Blume Studios. Players navigate a giant Monopoly board featuring classic spaces like Boardwalk, Park Place, the railroads, and utilities. Along the way, you’ll solve puzzles, crack codes, collect properties, and try to outsmart opponents — all before time runs out. Catch an exclusive preview of Electricidad at Mint Museum Uptown, part of Three Bone Theatre’s three-year commitment to stage Luis Alfaro’s groundbreaking Greek Trilogy. Written by MacArthur Genius Luis Alfaro and directed by Glynnis O’Donoghue, this modern retelling sets Sophocles’ Electra in the Los Angeles barrios, exploring violence, grief, and revenge through the lens of Chicano and Latino communities. The program starts at 6:00 p.m., with Mint Museum Uptown galleries open late for Wednesday Night Live. Electricidad includes mature themes and is recommended for adult audiences.

Mo’ Betta Thursdays is a weekly jazz event hosted by Braxton Bateman in collaboration with A-part[meant] — a boutique spotlighting contemporary womenswear, accessories, and local artwork. Held in the heart of NoDa at the market/bar The Exchange at 36th, the event brings together some of Charlotte’s top musicians for an evening of blues, funk, jazz, and soulful improvisation.

The Woods and Caleb Caudle at Whitewater Center (7:00 p.m.)

Celebrate Fourth of July weekend at the Whitewater Center with two days of live music, yoga, races, and family fun. Festivities start on Thursday with evening yoga, the River Jam Run Club, and performances by North Carolina Americana singer-songwriter Caleb Caudle & The Sweet Critters and The Woods, a Nashville indie-folk band.

Town of Matthews Independence Day Celebration (5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.)🎆

The Town of Matthews kicks off the weekend at Stumptown Park with food trucks, kids’ activities, and a spectacular fireworks show. The park opens at 5:30 p.m., and admission is free. Enjoy food trucks serving hamburgers, hot dogs, BBQ, ice cream, and lemonade with bounce houses, an obstacle course, a basketball game, a tall slide, and fun extras like an Uncle Sam stilt walker for photos, balloon twists by Curley, and glitter tattoos. Live music by cover band Too Much Sylvia starts at 6:00 p.m., and the Matthews Sportsplex will be the best viewing spot to catch the fireworks show at 9:30 p.m.

Charlotte Knights vs. Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp at Truist Field (6:05 p.m.) 🎆

The 2025 WBT SkyShow, one of the Southeast’s largest Fourth of July fireworks displays, will take place Thursday night at Truist Field as the Charlotte Knights face the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins. A Charlotte Fourth of July tradition since 1976, gates will open at 3:00 p.m., with live broadcasts and pre-game activities leading up to the first pitch. The fireworks show will follow immediately after the game.

Jazz at The Bechtler: An Evening with Maria Howell at The Bechtler (6:00 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.)

Lake Wylie Annual Fireworks Show (9:00 p.m.) 🎆

Watch the fireworks on the water at the annual Lake Wylie Fireworks Show. The festivities kick off at dusk, with the fireworks show set to light up the sky around 9:00 p.m. Enjoy food and entertainment in one of the area’s most scenic spots by the Buster Boyd Bridge on Hwy 49 at Lake Wylie. For the best views, grab a spot at the Buster Boyd Bridge Boat Landing, Papa Doc’s Shore Club, Rey Azteca’s deck, Lake Wylie Italian & Pizza, Bagel Boat, Long Cove Resort, or watch from your boat near the bridge.

Kannapolis Cannon Ballers vs. Hickory Crawdads at Atrium Health Ballpark (7:00 p.m.) 🎆

The Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (Single-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox) will also host a big fireworks show at Atrium Health Ballpark in Kannapolis, as the Cannon Ballers take on the Hickory Crawdads (Single-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers). Founded in 1995 as the Piedmont Phillies, the team became the Piedmont Boll Weevils before rebranding as the Kannapolis Intimidators in 2001 to honor local legend Dale Earnhardt. They won their only championship in 2005, and after the 2019 season, the club rebranded as the Cannon Ballers. Since 2021, they’ve played at Atrium Health Ballpark — a family-friendly stadium that has helped revitalize downtown Kannapolis.

Fort Mill Independence Day Celebration (6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.) 🎆

Celebrate the Fourth of July with the Town of Fort Mill on Thursday, July 3, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Fort Mill Amphitheater and Walter Elisha Park. Enjoy a festive evening featuring a Most Patriotic Contest for kids and adults, live music from Main Event Band and The Swingin’ Medallions, a special ceremony with the Town Council and Strawberry Queens, and a fireworks finale at 9:15 p.m. The event also includes food trucks, kids’ crafts, face painting, and balloon artists. Parking is available at several nearby lots, with handicapped parking at Fort Mill Town Hall. Please avoid parking along residential streets to prevent towing.

Tega Cay’s annual Fourth of July Celebration (July 4-5) 🎆

Tickets: Free

Celebrate Independence Day at Tega Cay’s annual Fourth of July Celebration, packed with two days of family fun. Festivities kick off on Friday, July 4, with the “Where Eagles Soar” Land Parade at 9:00 a.m., a Lions Club Fish Fry with live swing music from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and a fireworks show over the golf course at 9:00 p.m. The celebration continues on Saturday, July 5, with a Flotilla Boat Parade and Freedom SUP Fun Run starting at 11 a.m., a Carolina Show Ski Team performance at noon, and the Uncle Sam Jam concert at Runde Park to close out the weekend.

Coconut Groove, known for covering classic rock, pop, soul, R&B, Americana, blues, funk, and jazz, will perform at Smokey Joe’s, one of Charlotte’s beloved dive bars and a staple in the city since 1984. The bar has also served as a filming location for movies such as Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, the 2008 horror-comedy GoreMet: Zombie Chef from Hell, and more recently, a biopic about boxer Christy Martin starring Sydney Sweeney. Smokey Joe’s offers a laid-back vibe with a pool table, ping-pong, and an outdoor patio in East Charlotte.

The Crown will look to regain their early-season form as Orlando City comes to town for Charlotte FC’s first home match since May 24. Fresh off the news of Pep Biel’s contract extension, Charlotte aims to defeat fifth-seeded Orlando after losing four of their last five matches. They’ll need a big performance from Biel, while Wilfried Zaha will be out due to suspension after accumulating yellow cards, including one in the match against Chicago. Arrive early and grab a limited-edition Charlotte FC straw hat.
