Charlotte Checkers vs. Abbotsford Canucks (Calder Cup Finals) at Bojangles Coliseum (7:00 p.m.)

The Checkers return home after a dramatic Game 5 win over the Abbotsford Canucks in the Calder Cup Finals. A clutch overtime goal from Jesse Puljujärvi lifted Charlotte to victory, bringing the series back to Bojangles Coliseum for Game 6 with Abbotsford leading 3-2. Game 5 marked the third overtime contest of the series, and with the home crowd ready to ignite the arena, the Checkers will look to force a decisive Game 7.

Celebrate the spirit of jazz at The Bill Hanna Legacy Jazz Session, every Monday night at Petra’s. A tribute to the late, great Bill Hanna, who was widely known as the godfather of Charlotte jazz. The weekly event brings together some of the city’s best musicians for a night of improvisational performances.

Grammy Award-winning R&B and jazz singer-songwriter Ledisi will perform at Ovens Auditorium with special guest Marsha Ambrosius. Best known for her songs “Alright,” “Anything for You,” and “Pieces of Me,” Ledisi also portrayed gospel legend Mahalia Jackson in Selma (2014) and again in Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story (2022). She released her 12th studio album, The Crown, on April 25. Joining Ledisi will be British R&B songstress Marsha Ambrosius — of Floetry fame — who recently released her fourth studio album, Casablanco, in 2024 through Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records.

Hornets Draft Party at The Casey by Beau Monde (7:00 p.m.)

The Hornets’ official Draft Party will take place at The Casey by Beau Monde, featuring appearances by Hornets legend Kemba Walker, Brandon Miller, Hugo, the Honey Bees, and more. The event will also offer food, drinks, live music, giveaways, and, of course, the Hornets’ official first-round draft pick announcement. The first 200 fans will receive an exclusive cooler tote, and the Hornets Fan Shop will also pop up with the latest team gear and merch.

R&B singer-songwriter and actress Coco Jones returns to Charlotte this week following the release of her debut studio album, Why Not More?, in April. The former Disney child star, who won a Grammy for her hit song “ICU,” also played the role of Hilary Banks in the modern reimagining of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Jones will be joined by Def Jam labelmate and rising rapper Lady London, a New Jersey native now based in Los Angeles.

Latin fusion ensemble Tumbao brings their electrifying blend of salsa, funk, cumbia, Latin rock, R&B, and psychedelic rhythms to Snug Harbor on Thursday night. Featuring nine seasoned musicians from a wide range of musical backgrounds, the group delivers a genre-defying sound and a vibrant, multicultural experience that connects with audiences of all kinds.

Held in the heart of NoDa at the market/bar The Exchange at 36th, the event brings together some of Charlotte’s top musicians for an evening of blues, funk, jazz, and soulful improvisation.

Budding folk-punk singer-songwriter Sunny War will perform in Charlotte this week, following the February release of her latest album, Armageddon in a Summer Dress, through New West Records. After breaking through with her critically acclaimed 2021 album Simple Syrup, she has gone on to open for artists such as Booker T, Keb’ Mo’, Mavis Staples, Valerie June, and Angelique Kidjo. She also founded a Los Angeles chapter of Food Not Bombs to serve free vegan meals in Skid Row. Charlotte-based alt-country singer-songwriter Ryan Lockhart will open the show.

Independent Picture House is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the iconic films of 1985 this summer. This week, they’ll screen Teen Wolf, the cult coming-of-age classic starring Michael J. Fox as a high schooler, whose life changes when he discovers he’s a werewolf. Released in August 1985, Teen Wolf became a box office hit, earning over $80 million worldwide on a modest $4 million budget.

Topsail Steamer, the popular to-go seafood boil company, is bringing its signature coastal feast to Birdsong Brewing. Guests can choose from three dining slots — Early Lunch (1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.), Late Lunch (3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.), or Dinner (5:00 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.) — to enjoy a delicious spread of snow crab clusters, peel-and-eat shrimp, red bliss potatoes, and corn on the cob, finished with plenty of butter and cocktail sauce. Buckets are available in two sizes: the Low Tider (serves 2-3) and the High Tider (serves 4-5), with optional upgrades like lobster tails, clams, and scallops. Seating is first-come, first-served, so it’s best to arrive early to grab a table and a brew.

Pride in the Park at Mint Museum Randolph returns this weekend to celebrate love, unity, and LGBTQ+ pride. The free, all-ages event will feature a vibrant mix of live music, performances, and interactive art set against the museum’s front terrace, complete with food trucks and a cash bar. This year’s headliners include Carlos Dwayne, GEREM3, Tramel, Kash Kyla, J.R. McDonald, and Tre Darian Daniels, with additional performances by Shawn Westley, Ishon Da Realest, Lamar, and DJ Tonto.

ASÉ Wrestling at Slingshot Social Game Club (7:00 p.m.)

Founded by independent professional wrestler “The Revolutionary” Darius Lockhart, ASÉ is a Black-owned professional wrestling event series. The production returns to Charlotte with “Return of the King” at Slingshot Social Game Club, featuring a main event showdown between ASÉ Men’s Champion “The All Father” Darius Carter and Lockhart himself. Other marquee matchups include Cedric Alexander facing off against “The Gifted One” Yahya, along with the continuation of the ASÉ Women’s Championship Tournament. WWE legend Jazz and AEW star Kaun will also be on hand for special appearances, alongside a stacked lineup featuring Suge D, Kiera Hogan, Faye Jackson, Savannah Evans, Joseline Navarro, The Audacity, Reyhan Inteus, Darian Bengston, and Owen Knight.

Croatian cellist Stjepan Hauser, best known as one half of the acclaimed duo 2CELLOS, will bring his electrifying fusion of classical and contemporary music to Charlotte this weekend at Skyla Credit Union Amphitheatre. Renowned for blending timeless masterpieces with modern hits, Hauser’s 2020 solo album Classic, recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s classical chart. His global appeal has taken him to some of the world’s most prestigious stages — from New York’s Carnegie Hall and Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium to London’s O₂ Arena, Paris’ Accor Arena, Munich’s Olympiahalle, Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome, and beyond.
