The Charlotte Hornets 2023-24 City Edition uniforms have been unveiled, as the franchise continues to celebrate Charlotte’s history as the home of the first U.S. Branch Mint and the Carolina Gold Rush of the 1800s. In an effort to refresh the mint story for the organization’s 35th Anniversary of NBA Basketball, the new uniforms most noticeably changed the base granite color from last year to teal. Chief Marketing Officer Seth Bennett explained the decision to make this color change.

The Hornets celebrate Charlotte’s history as the home of the first U.S. Branch Mint with new City Edition Uniforms.

“We knew we would continue the mint story, but how do we refresh that? We were intentional that this would be our 35th-anniversary celebration, so the task became how to merge those stories and allow them to live within the design aspect.”

With the Feastables patch on the upper left side of the jersey, the Jordan brand logo is adjacent to the patch on the right side, as the Hornets remain the only NBA team with the Jordan logo present on all of their jerseys. “The Hive Is Alive” appears in gold above the jocktag on the left front of the jersey, making it a point to incorporate details that stay true to their identity. In keeping with the “Hive Is Alive” theme, Charlotte chose to integrate hornets nest-inspired side panels with a mint overlay and gold trim. The shorts feature a gold Buzz City emblem on the waistband, with black and gold trim outlining the badge.

The NBA gave the Charlotte Hornets a color template to use in preparation for the City Edition uniforms, as the custom NBA In-Season Tournament courts match the new look. The uniforms will debut on November 14 (Miami Heat) and November 17 (Milwaukee Bucks) for Charlotte’s In-Season Tournament home games. Charlotte will wear the City Edition uniforms 11 times at home and three on the road this season.

This marks the third year the Hornets incorporate the mint and gold story for the City Edition uniforms.

“This is a continuation of that story. The City Edition has been wildly successful across the NBA, it is one of the most popular jerseys the league sells internationally…we think it provides a nice addition to the season.”

There are 40 additional items with the City Edition theme including hats, basketballs, hoodies, shirts, and most notably a limited edition 2023 gold Starter jacket, similar to last year’s mint color. All City Edition merchandise will be available to purchase November 2 at the Hornets Fan Shop.
