The Charlotte Hornets are teaming up with local and regional recording artists to showcase and develop musical talent in the city. On January 20 (Martin Luther King Day), the Hornets will host a special postgame concert featuring R&B duo Ruff Endz, RCA artist Dear Silas, Queen City stalwart Elevator Jay, Charlie Smarts of Raleigh-based hip-hop group Kooley High, Sam Be Yourself (Finalist on the Netflix show Rhythm + Flow), Charlotte’s Jayway Sosa, and Hotboy Lil Shaq.

Shelby Palubiak, an account executive for the Charlotte Hornets, is spearheading the first “Music Industry Night.”

“North Carolina has been a topic of discussion in the hip-hop/rap conversations with big names like J Cole, Rapsody, 9th Wonder, and DaBaby,” Palubiak said. “But when you look at some of these up-and-coming artists like Elevator Jay, Jay Way Sosa, Hot Boy Lil Shaq and many others, Charlotte and North Carolina are not far off from being considered the new home of hip-hop, in my opinion.”
