On Sunday, September 22, CLTure, Blumenthal Arts, and the Carolinas Asian American Chamber of Commerce presented the first Day + Night Market at Ballantyne’s Backyard as part of the Charlotte International Arts Festival. On a scorching hot first day of autumn, thousands came out to enjoy Asian food, art, cultural performances, and engaging vendor activations. Food trucks and booths included Noom Yai, Banh Mi Brothers, Dumpling Girls, Vijay’s Chicken Inasal, Chutney Cat, Be-Em Asian Kitchen, Hindu Center of Charlotte, Tous les Jours, Beard Papa’s, Creamy Rolls, SipCha, Cocoa’s Cookies, and Sugarcane Co.
Attendees also enjoyed a free pop-up nail salon by NC Nails Esthetics Academy, along with activations by Ballantyne Chess Klub, Game Show Battle Rooms, and MultiKulti Kidz. The evening featured a headlining set by Charlotte indie rock band briZB (@BriHuynh), as well as cultural performances by Japanese Taiko of CLT, Thunder Wave Martial Arts, the Cambodian Organization of Charlotte, the Hana-akari Dance Team, Musical Mudra, and the Taichi Fan Dance. HNin Nie was the event’s featured artist, creating a vibrant “Wood Dragon” art installation, while artist Santvana Anju curated and organized the Bollywood Exhibit and Indian art gallery.
