A Vibe Called Fresh: Westside Symphony is set to take over Charlotte’s West Complex on Saturday for a celebration of community, culture, and creativity. The free, family-friendly event, will feature a first-of-its-kind live performance by members of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, playing golden era Southern rap music, accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Harvey Cummings II and singer-songwriter Rae Monique. The theme, Crunk, Trap, Snap: Celebrating The Golden Years of Southern Rap Party Music, will take guests on a nostalgic journey back to the early to mid-2000s, transforming classic club anthems into a unique musical experience.
Attendees will also be able to enjoy free roller skating, a live art exhibition by Ricky Singh (My Brother’s Keeper), R&B karaoke, trivia, hula hoop contests, and several local food and retail vendors. Go-go band The Iconic Truth will perform at 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., along with a special hour-long set by DJ Buttafingaz, mixing the Southern hip-hop and R&B classics that ruled the era.
