ASÉ, a Black-owned wrestling and live music event series founded by professional wrestler, “The Revolutionary” Darius Lockhart, brings the first ASÉ Family Block Party to Piedmont Open IB Middle School Friday night. Featuring live wrestling matches and musical performances, Friday night’s lineup will be headlined Charlotte R&B/hip-hop artist The Bleus and multi-instrumentalist Braxton Bateman with live DJ sets by Steel Wheel and DJ Rocxi.
The main event wrestling showcases will feature the “Original Gothic Gangster” Trever Aeon taking on Reyhan “The Cream Pie Papi” Inteus, along with a fatal four-way match between “The Spark” Jada Stone, Joseline Navarro, Maya World, and Aleah James.
The brainchild of Charlotte native professional wrestler and creative, Darius Lockhart, the word ASÉ has Yoruba origins meaning command, energy, or life.
“As a student of the game and a lover of Pro Wrestling since the age of 12, I noticed the people who are running the show didn’t always look as diverse as the people working for them in the ring,” Lockhart said. “I want to combat marginalization through Pro Wrestling.”
The first ASÉ event took place at the historic Grady Cole Center in December 2023, and has since featured prominent Black wrestlers such as Mark Henry, Ron Simmons, D’Lo Brown and Theodore Long, along with Aja Kong, Kiera Hogan, Jonathan Gresham, Sonny Kiss, and Kevin Knight. The event series has also hosted performances by notable local/regional artists like Dreamville’s Lute, Roc Nation/Jamla rapper Reuben Vincent, and neo-soul/R&B songstress Cyanca.
