Ayrsley Grand Cinemas’ Retro Horror Series returns in October just in time for the Halloween season. A Charlotte tradition since 2013 created by former general manager of the theater, Kara Leonard, a cinephile and horror movie buff, who started the series over a decade ago due to the lack of classic films screening in region at the time. 

Since 2013, Leonard has curated horror films at Ayrsley Grand Cinemas in October with an aim to screen both cult classics and fan favorites. Films like Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining and some of Leonard’s personal favorites such as Rosemary’s Baby and An American Werewolf in London. 

New this year is Silver Bullet, the 1985 film based on the Stephen King novella, Cycle of the Werewolf, and the 1981 film, Possession, which was recently re-released in a stunning 4K restoration. Rounding out this year’s lineup is the 2002 supernatural horror film and box office hit, The Ring; the 1982 classic, Poltergeist; and The Exorcist, which will be returning for the first time since the inaugural year.

Tickets to Ayrsley Grand Cinemas’ Retro Horror Series are only $5 per screening and run from October 4 to October 31. Ayrsley Grand Cinemas is one of the few remaining independently owned and operated movie theaters in the region located at 9110 Kings Parade Blvd in the Steele Creek area.
