1776 is a musical based on the events leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence, telling a story of the efforts of John Adams to persuade his colleagues to vote for independence. Originally premiering on Broadway in 1969, the musical won three Tony Awards (including Best Musical).
American Repertory Theater (Harvard University) and Roundabout Theatre Company’s revival of the Tony Award-winning musical directed by Jeffrey L. Page (Violet) and Diane Paulus (Waitress), brings a multiracial cast of female, transgender, and nonbinary actors portraying the founders. The result is a show of passion, debate, and roof-raising musical fireworks.
