Common Cause NC, a non-partisan grassroots organization, presents a special CarolinaDaze concert event at Johnson C. Smith University this weekend featuring Charlotte’s Sainted Trap Choir, Jason Jet, and Raleigh rapper Shame Gang. Taking place on the Duke Hall Lawn, the event will also feature street vendors, food trucks, and voter registration activations and education. The Charlotte event hosted by the non-profit organization follows CarolinaDaze Music & Arts Festival in Downtown Raleigh earlier this month which featured Janelle Monáe, Tierra Whack, Moses Sumney, Helado Negro, and Charlotte’s own Lute.
“As this election season heats up, CarolinaDaze Charlotte will provide a timely community hookup for Queen City and JCSU voters looking for a no-cost opportunity to hear moving music and inspiring messages, as well as get all they need to cast a ballot this fall,” said Rotrina Campbell, Common Cause NC’s Organizing Manager. “Like our CarolinaDaze Festival in Raleigh earlier this month, we’re hoping to offer thousands of young attendees ways they can turn their energy into better days ahead for North Carolina.”
The Sainted Trap Choir, led by singer-songwriter and musician Dennis Reed and DJ Fannie Mae, is a trap choir blending gospel, R&B, and hip-hop music, paying homage to the Southern Black church experience. They were featured in Season 18 of America’s Got Talent, returning for America’s Got Talent: Fantasy League, after receiving the golden buzzer from Simon Cowell following a powerful rendition of Prince’s “Purple Rain.” The Sainted Trap Choir also opened for Janelle Monae in Charlotte and performed at the prestigious Lincoln Center in New York City.
Charlotte singer-songwriter, musician and producer Jason Jet is coming of the release of two the new singles in 2024: “No Fear” and “Whatever You Want.” The owner of Grindhaus Studios, Jet has also engineered for artists such as Erykah Badu, Anthony Hamilton, Joe, and Lucky Daye.
Shame Gang, the Maryland-born rapper now based in Raleigh has had a swift rise in the North Carolina hip-hop scene, following the release of his 2023 album, Better Late Than Never, recently signing a deal with Roc Nation’s indie distribution company.
