Legendary New Orleans jazz drummer, Herlin Riley, will play Charlotte’s Jazz Room in August with his esteemed band featuring Oscar Josue Rossignoli (piano), Max Moran (bass), and Julian Lee (saxophone). Best known for his work with Wynton Marsalis, and as a key member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Riley was the drummer for the great jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal from 1984 to 1987. He has also recorded with luminaries such as Dr. John, Harry Connick Jr., George Benson, Marcus Roberts, and many renowned musicians throughout his illustrious career.
Riley was also pivotal in developing the drum parts for Marsalis’s Pulitzer Prize-winning jazz composition, Blood on the Fields. As a bandleader, Riley has released four studio albums with his latest, Perpetual Optimism, in 2019 through Mack Avenue.
