Country-pop star LeAnn Rimes and folk/soul duo Johnnyswim will kick off the Summer Music Fest at Carowinds Paladium this weekend. The summer concert series that takes place on Fridays and Saturdays in July and August at the amusement park located on the North Carolina-South Carolina border, is included with Carowinds admission.
Discovered on the television show, Star Search, Rimes’ debut 1996 studio album, Blue, solidified her as the next big country star at the age of 13. The two-time Grammy Award-winner was one of the best-selling artists in the ’90s and early 2000s with hits like “How Do I Live,” “Can’t Fight the Moonlight,” and “I Need You,” and “Blue.”
Rimes won season 4 of The Masked Singer in 2020 and released her latest album, God’s Work, in 2022, featuring contributions from Ben Harper, Ledisi, Ziggy Marley, Mickey Guyton, Sheila E, Robert Randolph, and Aloe Blacc.
Soulful folk duo Johnnyswim, comprised of the talented husband-and-wife team of Abner Ramirez and Amanda Sudano Ramirez, will be the opening act for Rimes. The duo have released four studio albums and are known for their stellar live sets, which they have brought to festivals like Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, Newport Folk, and Lollapalooza.
The gates of the Paladium will open at 5:00 p.m. with Johnnyswim scheduled to take the stage at 5:30 p.m. and LeAnn Rimes at 8:00 p.m. Seating at Carowinds Paladium is first-come, first-serve with Section 1 seating reserved for guests who collect a free wristband at Thrill Zone Stage (near Hurler) on the day of each performance (while supplies lasts).
