The Independent Picture House will screen ‘Pee-wee’s Big Adventure’ to honor Paul Reubens

Celebrating the life and legacy of actor and comedian Paul Reubens, Charlotte’s Independent Picture House will screen Reubens’ first feature film, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, which he co-wrote with the late Phil Hartman. The directorial debut of Tim Burton (Beetlejuice, Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas), the film will screen August 11-17 at the local indie film house. Also, as a special promo, if you wear a bowtie, moviegoers will receive one free small popcorn.

Reubens, who was best known for his role as Pee-Wee Herman, a whimsical and childlike character, starred and produced his own Emmy Award-winning television show, Pee-wee’s Playhouse, following the success of the film. Reubens was also widely remembered for his role as Derek Foreal in the movie Blow, in addition countless appearances in films and television shows throughout his four-decade career.

Released in 1985, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure follows Pee-wee Herman (Reubens) on a wild adventure after his beloved bicycle is stolen. With the help of a fortune teller, Herman encounters a variety of strange characters and situations as he treks across the country to recover his cherished bike.

The screenings will begin Friday, August 11 at The Independent Picture House and tickets are $8.
