Once rivals, Southern and Midwest hip-hop legends Three 6 Mafia and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony are teaming up for a nationwide tour, hitting Charlotte’s PNC Music Pavilion this summer on September 10, with special guests Tech N9ne and DJ Quik.
Three 6 Mafia, the groundbreaking Memphis group featuring DJ Paul, Juicy J, and Crunchy Black, are widely credited as pioneers of the crunk and trap genres. They rose to fame with late ’90s and early 2000s hits like “Tear da Club Up ’97,” “Sippin’ on Some Syrup,” and “Stay Fly.” They were also the first Southern rap group to win an Oscar for Best Original Song with “It’s Hard out Here for a Pimp” from the film Hustle & Flow.
From Cleveland, Ohio, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony revolutionized hip-hop with their signature melodic harmonies and rapid-fire flows. Emerging in the early ’90s under Eazy-E’s Ruthless Records, they captivated audiences worldwide with timeless classics like “Tha Crossroads,” “Thuggish Ruggish Bone,” and “1st of Tha Month.” Their innovative sound continues to influence many artists today.
The two groups, who once had a fierce rivalry, faced off in a highly publicized Verzuz battle at the Hollywood Palladium in late 2021, streamed live on Triller and Instagram. The event became tense when Bizzy Bone accused Three 6 Mafia of mocking them during the performance, briefly sparking a physical altercation on stage. However, the conflict was quickly resolved, and the night ended with both groups sharing the stage in a display of unity.
Opening the tour will be Kansas City’s underground rap powerhouse Tech N9ne and Compton hip-hop veteran DJ Quik.
Tickets will go on sale to the public on Friday, June 13 at 10 a.m.
