Weezer, The Shins, and Silversun Pickups are joining forces for a nostalgic arena tour this summer, stopping in Charlotte on Saturday, October 3 at Spectrum Center, and Raleigh on October 4 at Lenovo Center.
Weezer, fronted by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rivers Cuomo, released their self-titled debut album in 1994, featuring the MTV-heavy rotation hits “Buddy Holly” and “Say It Ain’t So.” This year, the band is also celebrating the 30th anniversary of their sophomore album, ‘Pinkerton.’ Their 2001 follow-up (the Green Album), which includes the hits “Island in the Sun” and “Hash Pipe,” further cemented Weezer as one of the defining alternative rock bands of the era.
The Shins, who emerged in the late ’90s under Seattle’s Sub Pop Records, brought a stripped-down indie pop-folk sound with songs like “Caring Is Creepy” and “New Slang,” both featured in the 2004 film Garden State and its soundtrack. Their 2007 album, Wincing the Night Away — their most commercially successful release — reached No. 2 on the Billboard charts and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Album, featuring their biggest hit, “Australia.”
Silversun Pickups, known for their fuzzy, shoegaze-influenced alternative rock, broke through in the mid-2000s with their debut album Carnavas, featuring the indie hit “Lazy Eye.” They are coming off the release of a new album, Tenterhooks, produced by legendary grunge and alternative-rock producer Butch Vig, best known for his work with Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, and Green Day.
Presale for the tour begins Tuesday, March 31, with tickets going on sale to the public Friday, April 3 at 10 a.m.
