No Kid Hungry, Governor Roy Cooper and First Lady Kristin Cooper have announced a new texting tool for parents to find meals nearby in North Carolina during the Covid-19 crisis. Parents who need assistance with free meal sites can text FOODNC to 877-877 or COMIDA to 877-877 (Spanish), to find nearby drive-thru and pick-up locations for meals. The resources have been set up for children ages 18 and younger (including pre-school), who normally rely on reduced-price meals.
In addition, No Kid Hungry has created a map of schools and community organizations across the state that help families receive free meals. Be sure to call and double-check on food availability as many locations may run out based on demand. Parents who text 877-877 will receive nearby pick-up and drive-thru locations. You can also call 2-1-1 to speak with someone that can assist in finding meal sites.
