Following the first-ever professional outdoor NHL hockey game in North Carolina this past winter in Raleigh, the Charlotte Checkers and Charlotte Knights have announced an outdoor hockey match at Truist Field in uptown Charlotte on Saturday, January 13. It will be the first time the Checkers will participate in an outdoor game and the first professional hockey game of its kind in Charlotte. The Queen City Winter Classic will see the hometown Checkers facing the Rochester Americans (AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres), transforming the ballpark into a hockey stadium with a full regulation rink located between first and third base across the infield.
“Truist Field is the perfect venue for us to host this event, and our entire organization is looking forward to this historic occasion,” said Checkers Chief Operating Officer Tera Black.

“We’re thrilled to be able to host the first-ever outdoor professional AHL hockey game in the Southeast with the Charlotte Checkers taking on the Rochester Americans,” said Dan Rajkowski, Charlotte Knights Chief Operating Officer. “This game will be a wonderful addition to our Light the Knights Festival this winter.”
