Presented by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation and the Carolina Theatre, this one-night-only event features acclaimed American novelist Amor Towles, bestselling author of Rules of Civility, A Gentleman in Moscow, and The Lincoln Highway. A Yale graduate with a master’s degree in English from Stanford University, Towles launched his celebrated literary career with his debut novel Rules of Civility, followed by A Gentleman in Moscow, which spent over a year on the New York Times bestseller list and was later adapted for television. His third novel, The Lincoln Highway, was named Amazon’s best book of 2021, and his short fiction collection Table for Two further expanded his global reach. Looking to continue their undefeated homestand this week after winning the first three games of their seven-game home stretch, the Hornets will take on the last-place Sacramento Kings on Tuesday before three critical matchups against the Knicks, 76ers, and Celtics later this week. Firmly in the 10th spot in the Eastern Conference standings, the Hornets currently sit just two games out of the sixth seed, making this week pivotal as the regular season enters its final stretch. The Hornets remain red-hot and are one of the league’s best teams over the last 15 games, ranking first in offensive rating, sixth in defensive rating, and holding the league’s best net rating (12.6). At 11-4 during that span, they have also been on fire from three-point range, shooting 40.9% as a team. This week could determine whether they remain a play-in team or climb into a playoff spot for the first time since the 2015-16 season.

Charlotte Knights vs. Durham Bulls – Opening Weekend (March 27-29)

The Charlotte Knights kick off their 2026 season with an action-packed weekend at Truist Field against in-state rivals the Durham Bulls. Friday night’s Opening Knight features Fan Fest from 5-7 p.m., including a DJ, games, Wiffle Ball inflatables, face painting, caricatures, and a special T-shirt ticket package, along with a rally towel giveaway for the first 8,500 fans, pre-game music from Big Fun Band, and post-game fireworks. Saturday brings a pre-game team autograph session, live music from Will Thames, and a post-game drone show, while Sunday wraps up the weekend with “Everyone Runs the Bases” for fans of all ages. The Knights are coming off a 65-85 season, while the Durham Bulls finished 85-64 in 2025.

The Atlanta multi-hyphenate first built a following on Twitter before gaining wider recognition through his artwork for Thundercat’s Drunk and his role in Flying Lotus’ 2017 film Kuso. As a rapper, he’s known for viral tracks like “Jesus Is the One (I Got Depression)” and released his debut album Shut the Fuck Up Talking to Me in 2021. He also stars as Tariq on ABC’s Abbott Elementary and is known for high-energy DJ sets blending house, rap, jungle, R&B, and techno.

Alan Charmer (the solo project of Terrence Richard, frontman of Charlotte alt-rock band Junior Astronomers), Menastree, and Phaze Gawd will take the stage at Petra’s on Friday night. Charmer released his debut project, Don’t You Worry, in 2022, and his latest single, “Recall,” in November. Menastree, a Charlotte musical collective that blends hip-hop, trip-hop, house, jazz, and R&B into an eclectic “feel good” sound, features a rotating cast of musicians including Jesse Lemar Williams, DJ Lil Tone, and vocalist Jeremy Mayher, and has since evolved to include local musicians such as Braxton Bateman, Zach Wheeler, Malcolm Charles, Wenisha Massey, Curt Keyz, Stefan Kallander, and Marcus Jones. Art, Beats + Lyrics (AB+L) returns to Charlotte on Saturday at Blume Studios, bringing its signature blend of visual art, music, and community-driven culture back to a city that helped shape its national rise. What started as a 2004 street art concept in Atlanta has grown into the country’s largest traveling art party, with Charlotte serving as a key early proving ground — including its first activation outside Atlanta at CenterStage NoDa in 2008, a moment widely credited with helping launch the touring format. Since then, AB+L has expanded to more than 30 cities, evolving into a multi-sensory experience that bridges street culture and institutional art while showcasing both rising and established talent, from Kendrick Lamar and Rapsody to emerging regional artists.
