Following the release of her new album To Whom This May Concern — her first in more than a decade — Jill Scott has announced an international tour that will make two stops in North Carolina this summer, including performances at Charlotte’s Belk Theater on June 16 and Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) on June 18.
The Philadelphia native, who began her career as a spoken-word artist, was discovered by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson of The Roots. That connection led to Scott co-writing the Grammy Award-winning song “You Got Me,” recorded by The Roots with Erykah Badu and Eve.
With the release of her debut album Who Is Jill Scott?: Words and Sounds Vol. 1 in 2000, Scott emerged as a leading voice in the neo-soul movement alongside artists such as Badu, D’Angelo, and The Roots, blending soul, jazz, hip-hop, and spoken-word poetry into deeply personal and culturally resonant music.
On her new album, To Whom This May Concern, Scott leans into those strengths, weaving together soul, jazz, hip-hop, and spoken word with warmth and authenticity. The album reflects on personal growth, relationships, and resilience — themes that have long defined her work.
Standout tracks include “Beautiful People,” “Norf Side,” featuring fellow Philadelphia native Tierra Whack; the go-go/jazz-influenced “Liftin’ Me Up”; “Ode to Nikki,” featuring Ab-Soul; and “Be Great,” which features brass from Trombone Shorty. The album also includes tracks with JID and Too $hort, along with production from longtime collaborators Adam Blackstone, Andre Harris, Camper, and DJ Premier.
According to the official press release, the shows will “center on a series of residency-style performances, placing live band instrumentation at the heart of the experience. Each city will host uniquely curated shows designed to create deep, immersive connections between artist and audience.”
The use of cellphones or recording devices, including smart glasses, is not permitted on this tour. Upon arrival at the venue, all phones and recording accessories will be secured in pouches. Artist presale begins Tuesday, March 10 at 10 a.m. (MissJillScott.com) with tickets going on sale to the general public Wednesday, March 11 at 10 a.m.
