Multi-hyphenate Donald Glover; the actor, comedian, writer, director, and rapper, also known by his stage name, Childish Gambino, has announced a world tour, coming to Raleigh (PNC Arena) on August 30. Recently releasing Atavista, a reissued project, which is the “finished version” of his fourth studio album, 3.15.20, Glover (Childish Gambino) is also expected to release his fifth studio album, Bando Stone in the New World, sometime this summer. Dropping a music video for the track, “Little Foot Big Foot,” accompanying the rerelease (Atavista), the album features collaborations with Ariana Grande, Summer Walker, Young Nudy, 21 Savage, Ink, and Kadhja Bonet.
Glover, who is an Emmy Award-winning actor and director best known for creating the FX show Atlanta, along with his roles in 30 Rock and Community, also stars in the remake of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, a new series that premiered on Amazon Prime Video in February. His debut studio album, Camp, was released in 2011, followed up by Because the Internet, which was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2015 Grammy Awards. His critically acclaimed 2016 release, Awaken, My Love!, tapped into his psychedelic, soul, funk and R&B influences, earning a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year.
The world tour will kick off in August featuring Willow as an opening act for all U.S. dates. The actor and singer-songwriter, who is the daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett, recently released her sixth studio album, Empathogen, on May 4.
This is the first time Childish Gambino will be performing in North Carolina since 2012 (Charlotte and Asheville), and his first-ever tour stop in Raleigh (August 30 at PNC Arena). The artist presale for the tour will start on Wednesday, May 15 at 12 p.m. (code: LittleFoot) and tickets will go on sale to the public Friday, May 17 at 10 a.m.
