Braxton Bateman, a talented multi-instrumentalist with deep roots in jazz, was born in Philadelphia and raised in Charlotte. He is the grandson of the legendary jazz drummer Edward Bateman Jr., who played with icons like Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea. Bateman’s early exposure to the vibrant neo-soul scene in Philadelphia, particularly at venues like the Clef Club of Jazz & Performing Arts, greatly influenced his musical journey. Initially drawn to the visual arts, Bateman’s trajectory changed dramatically after moving to Charlotte and enrolling at the Northwest School of the Arts. An accidental placement in band class introduced him to music in a transformative way, fostering an environment that encouraged artistic freedom and self-expression.
