The Hornets started off strong against the Nets on Tuesday night hitting 13 of their first 19 shots from the field (8-of-12 from three-point range) in the first quarter. They were outscored in every quarter the rest of the way, falling to the Nets 116-115 in Brooklyn. LaMelo Ball had a poor shooting night (3-of-13) and was benched in the final stretch of the fourth quarter after missing a shot and committing a frustration foul.

Ball will need to regroup to help get the Hornets back on track against a tough Detroit Pistons team that ranks 10th in defensive rating. Pistons center Jalen Duren only played eight minutes in the first matchup against the Hornets earlier this month after suffering an ankle injury, and with Mark Williams (foot) and Nick Richards (rib) still out, will look to dominate on the boards and in the paint. Duren is coming off a 15-point, 22-rebound performance against the Chicago Bulls on Monday night.

Brandon Miller shot 11-of-17 from the field against the Nets with 29 points (5-of-9 from three-point range) matching his season-high scoring total. Miles Bridges, who is listed as questionable (knee) for tonight’s game, has averaged 21.5 points in his last four on 51.9% shooting (53.8% from three-point range). The Hornets will need all the perimeter scoring they can get from Tre Mann, Grant Williams, and Cody Martin along with increased minutes from Moussa Diabaté to beat the Pistons for the second time this month.

With veteran additions Malik Beasley, Tobias Harris, and Tim Hardaway averaging a combined 40.6 points per game with their dynamic young backcourt duo of Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey, this is a different Pistons team than last year’s squad that finished with the NBA’s worst record.
