Charlotte Hornets vs. Toronto Raptors

Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at 7:00 p.m.

Spectrum Center
333 E Trade St.
Charlotte, NC 28202

Tickets: $16 plus

The Hornets will host the Toronto Raptors for the second time this season. The season series is currently tied 1-1, with both teams notching wins at home. The Raptors are on a three-game losing streak and sit in 12th place in the Eastern Conference standings.

The Hornets have dropped seven straight games at home, but Brandon Miller’s play as of late has jolted both the organization and fans with newfound enthusiasm. Miller is averaging 23.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game in his last 10 games.

The Hornets will wear their Association Edition uniforms against the Raptors, paired with the Association Edition court.

Wednesday’s theme is Women in Sports Night, celebrating the contributions of all women in and around sports.

What to watch for:

The Raptors are led by Scottie Barnes, a third-year forward who was named to the 2024 All-Star team. Barnes tallied a 30-point triple-double in his last appearance at Spectrum Center.

Toronto ranks third in the NBA in assist percentage (71.2) in their last 10 games. The Raptors have three players averaging over five assists per game (Scottie Barnes, Immanuel Quickley, and Dennis Schroder).

Nick Richards posted a double-double against the Raptors in the last matchup. Toronto lacks depth at center, so Richards might have an advantage on the glass tonight. The Hornets will need to move the ball effectively, in order to stay away from isolation possessions, which is a persistent problem that has been highlighted by head coach Steve Clifford.

Gordon Hayward, Cody Martin and Frank Ntilikina are listed as questionable for Wednesday night’s game against Toronto, and LaMelo Ball and Mark Williams remain out.

Jontay Porter and Gary Trent Jr. are listed as game-time decisions for the Toronto Raptors.

Inside the Numbers:

  • After scoring 33 points against the Lakers, Brandon Miller became the first rookie in Hornets franchise history to record back-to-back 30-point games
  • Miles Bridges set a new career-high with 41 points. Bridges became the eighth player in franchise history to record 40 points and five 3-pointers in a game (Devonte’ Graham, Gordon Hayward, Glen Rice, Jason Richardson, Terry Rozier, Kemba Walker and P.J. Washington Jr.)

Jeremy Grandison is a Charlotte native and contributing sports writer for CLTure. He also hosts his own podcast, Lock It or Leave It.
