The Hornets will kick off the preseason at the newly renovated Spectrum Center on Sunday against the New York Knicks. The teams were recently involved in a blockbuster trade that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to the Knicks from the Timberwolves in a three-team deal that yielded multiple second-round picks for the Hornets.

This will be the first time fans will get to see the team play under new head coach Charles Lee, who was hired back in May. Lee is coming off his second championship as an assistant coach with the Celtics, and will look to turn things around in Charlotte this season with a young core of LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, and Miles Bridges. The Hornets are coming off a 27-55 injury-riddled season, but are healthy outside of Mark Williams (Foot) and Cody Martin (wrist), who are expected to be back soon.

The Knicks are coming off back-to-back conference semifinals appearances and look to make a push for a championship this season with the addition of Towns. Jalen Brunson led the Knicks in points (28.7) and assists (6.7) last season while OG Anunoby, who signed a five-year $212.5 million contract in the offseason, will bolster the team defensively. Newly acquired wing, Mikal Bridges, will reunite with his former Villanova teammates Brunson and Josh Hart this season, adding more athleticism and perimeter length for coach Tom Thibodeau.

Brandon Miller is looking to build on his impressive rookie season, averaging 17.3 points and 4.3 rebounds a game. This will be the first time Miller, Ball and Bridges will be on the court together since January 26 against the Rockets, when Melo left the game with an ankle injury, and was then shut down for the remainder of the season.
