The Charlotte Knights will host the Toledo Mud Hens for a six-game homestand this week welcoming Hornets first-round draft pick Tidjane Salaun and second-round pick KJ Simpson on Thursday night, as the team takes the field in the 1969 Charlotte Hornets baseball uniforms. Salaun and Simpson will sign autographs for fans on the Truist Field concourse from 6:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., and Salaun will throw out the game’s ceremonial first pitch. The Thirsty Thursday will also feature $3 bottomless fountain sodas, $4 domestic drafts, $6 craft drafts, and $1 hot dogs.

The Charlotte Hornets were the city’s first professional baseball team dating back to the late 1800s, competing in various leagues through 1972, when they disbanded. Professional wrestling promoter Jim Crockett Jr. bought the Asheville Orioles in 1976 (the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles) and relocated the club from Asheville to Charlotte. Following the 1987 season, Charlotte Hornets owner George Shinn bought the team and renamed them the Charlotte Knights following a naming contest.

On Friday night, former Cy Young Award-winner Bartolo Colón will be in attendance to celebrate Hispanic culture, as the Knights turn into the Caballeros. On Saturday night, the game will offer unlimited hot dogs, pretzels, nachos, popcorn, soda and ice cream for $30, as the Knights take the field in Marvel-themed jerseys. On Sunday, following the game, kids are invited to stay to race around the bases.
