Mike Baggetta (mssv) and Peter DiStefano (Porno for Pyros) bring their Punk Jazz Tour to Snug Harbor this week with Charlotte post-rock band Thousand Dollar Movie.
An unconventional collaboration between two accomplished guitarists with different musical backgrounds, Baggetta blends his experimental jazz-infused improvisational approach with DiStefano’s ’90s alternative style that helped define an era with Porno for Pyros. With a free-form “punk jazz” approach to a rock show, they’ll play unreleased and unheard material.
Thousand Dollar Movie is a Charlotte post-rock band and the brainchild of musician Jeremy Ryan Smith. Often accompanied by Leo Solis (guitar, synths) of the indie synth-pop group Solis, Zach Luper (guitar), and Dominic Geralds (drums) of Jude Moses, Thousand Dollar draws influence from instrumental rock bands like Explosions in the Sky. Their debut EP, Give Me A Year, is a sonic ode to the Queen City featuring songs like “Central Ave” and “Elizabeth.” They released a new project, Birdfeeder, Vol. 1, in June through independent label Four Finger Records, which Smith and Solis co-own.
