Twenty years after their historic run on the second season of American Idol, Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken will reunite for a 2023 North American tour kicking off in April, performing at Charlotte’s Knight Theater on May 4. Combined, the two artists have sold more than eight million albums, toured the country 14 times, starred together on Broadway, won four Billboard Music Awards, an American Music Award, and have been nominated for two Grammys. The show will highlight the music that made Studdard and Aiken American Idol favorites with Aiken’s rendition of hits like “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” Studdard’s soulful single “Sorry,” and more.
Aiken, a Raleigh native, who is also an aspiring politician, ran for the Democratic nomination in North Carolina’s 4th congressional district in 2022, but lost in the primary to Valerie Foushee. Aiken and Studdard performed together at a congressional campaign rally for Aiken earlier this year.
The tour will also stop in Cary, North Carolina on April 29 at Koka Booth Amphitheatre with singer-songwriters Jeanne Jolly and Rebekah Todd, benefiting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, created by Hall of Fame N.C. State Basketball Coach Kay Yow, who passed away in 2009.
