In a Zoom press conference with chief marketing officer Seth Bennett on Wednesday morning, the Charlotte Hornets unveiled a brand new Statement Edition uniform to debut during the 2022-23 NBA season.

This year’s Statement uniform represents a marked change from the purple uniforms with “CHA” lettered across the chest from the last two seasons, going back to a classic “Hornets” lettering from the late Kemba Walker days. Along with the new wordmark, the uniform features more white and teal accents than past editions, a tonal cell pattern along the hems and down the side of the jersey, as well as a stinger-shaped cell pattern and a “C” logo on the waistband of the shorts. It looks similar to past iterations to the naked eye, but there’s lots of fine detail when looking at the uniform up close. All NBA jerseys worn this season will also feature No. 6 patches on the right shoulder to honor Bill Russell.

Hornets chief marketing officer Seth Bennett, an integral figure in the design and implementation of these uniforms, spoke to the vibrancy of the updated Statement edition uniform.

“There’s a certain vibrancy between the players, the relentlessness of our team and the attacking nature of a hornet. There’s a bit of our team DNA as well as our brand DNA weaved into them,” said Bennett.

The Statement uniform is one of four uniform sets every NBA team wears each season. The “Association” edition functions as a white/home uniform, the “Icon” edition serves a dark color/away uniform, “Statement” is a de facto alternate uniform and the “City” edition changes each season. The Statement uniform will be worn a total of 16 times this season– eight at home and seven on the road. Some of the prominent home games for the new Statement uniforms will be on October 29 against the Golden State Warriors, December 31 against the Brooklyn Nets, and January 14 against the Boston Celtics. The Statement uniform will also be worn during the final weekend home game of the regular season against Toronto on April 2.

The 2022-23 Statement jerseys are expected to be made available at the Hornets Fan Shop and at Hornets.com some time during the holiday season.
