Back in late August when the Fillmore in Charlotte announced two nights of stand-up comedian Donnell Rawlings presented by Dave Chappelle, it was unclear if Chappelle would actually be at the event. On Thursday afternoon, the Fillmore Charlotte’s social media accounts posted that Chappelle will be performing a special guest set. With Mick Jagger’s appearance at the Thirsty Beaver stealing all of the attention, the Chappelle announcement got sort of lost in the mix.
A cell phone-free show with all phones locked in pouches prior to the show, a video surfaced on social media on Friday posted by South Coast Music Group CEO, Arnold Taylor. In the clip, Chappelle shouts out DaBaby (who was in the building) a couple times saying, “Make some noise for Charlotte’s own DaBaby.” After a screeching applause, he continued: “Watch us learn, watch us grow, watch us take our lumps, watch us push this culture forward.”
Taylor said the video was sent to him randomly and he wasn’t at the event, but had high praise for the comedian who recently announced a new stand-up special, The Closer, coming to Netflix on October 5.
