Breakaway Presents: Another World

May 3-4, 2024

zMAX Dragway
6570 Bruton Smith Blvd
Concord, NC 28027

Tickets: $89 plus

Breakaway, one of the country’s largest traveling music festivals, will return to Charlotte Motor Speedway’s zMAX Dragway this weekend for a new two-day event, Another World. Following last year’s spring festival which saw nearly 20,000 per day at the track famous for their thundering NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) races, Another World will electrify with a different type of thrill in the form of bass music.

Breakaway Music Festival at zMAX Dragway in May of 2023 saw nearly 20,000 attendees per day.

The festival, founded in Columbus, Ohio in 2016, made its debut in Charlotte in 2017, expanding its footprint to the 125-acre dragway in 2021. 2024 will mark the first year the event will present an all-bass music experience with camping options headlined by some of the biggest EDM artists in the country including Excision, NGHTMRE, and Zomboy.

Named the Best Festival Series at the 2024 EDM Awards in Miami, Breakaway has expanded into multiple cities across the country with not only music, but their on-site experiences and activations sponsored by brands like Celsius, Jose Cuervo, and BeatBox.

In addition to the music, Breakaway Presents: Another World will feature several on-site activations and a full-size ferris wheel.

Before you head out to the festival, here are a few things you might want to know:

Here is a look at some of the artists that will be performing at Breakaway Presents: Another World this weekend (May 3-4) at zMAX Dragway

Excision

Canadian DJ, producer, and founder of Lost Lands music festival, Excision (Jeff Abel), is a stalwart in the ever-expanding bass music genre. Excision’s expansive discography displays a wide array of sounds across five studio albums, numerous EPs, compilations, and countless singles, accumulating well over two billion streams globally. Paired with his music are mind-bending visuals and massive LED lights that give fans a memorable sonic and optical experience at every show.

Of The Trees

Of The Trees will provide a refreshing change-up at Another World, diving into slower-paced bass and ambient styles, creating an otherworldly experience for attendees. The Maine native and Colorado-based producer has made his mark in the subgenre of experimental bass by diverting from punchy dubstep, and leaning into wonky, cosmic, and extraterrestrial sounds. His 2019 EP, Tanglewood, displays his ability to abandon the conventional by using samples from nature to create a mystifying soundscape, highlighted by the track, “Spanish Moss.”

Levity

The talented young trio composed of Chicago’s John Hauldren, Los Angeles’s PJ Carberry, and Minnesota’s Josh Tarum, have become a household name in the dubstep community, after an impromptu set at Electric Forest in 2023 caught the attention of thousands of festival-goers. Levity’s stage energy and crowd interaction proved to be contagious, quickly turning a last-minute one-hour set into a big party in the forest. The trio is known for their euphoric sounds and light bass, often mixing these elements into popular rap songs like “Paper Planes” by M.I.A. and “Dance (A$$)” by Big Sean. Recently, their song “Flip It” has caught fire, amassing over four million streams on Spotify.

NGHTMRE

Tyler Marenyi, better known as NGHTMRE, has been a force in the electronic scene for nearly ten years. Born in Connecticut, but raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, he received a degree in finance from Elon University before relocating to Los Angeles to study music. Specializing in both original tracks and EDM remixes, collaborating with artists like A$AP Ferg, Flux Pavilion, Zeds Dead, SLANDER, and Gunna, NGHTMRE transforms beats into his own unique rhythms, allowing him to toggle between genres seamlessly. His most recent release, “Restless,” features experimental bass producer Liquid Stranger and Canadian pop singer Mougleta. Marenyi also collaborated with instrumental/electronic hip-hop/jazz duo Big Gigantic on a five-song EP, Gigantic Nghtmre, in 2023.

Svdden Death

Danny Howland, the Los Angeles DJ and producer from San Jose, California, better known as Svdden Death, quickly made his presence felt in the electronic music scene with his self-released EP, Voyd Vol. 1, in 2018. His recent collaboration with Marshmello, MELLODEATH Tapes Vol. 1, showcases Svdden Death’s musical diversity and ability to blend dance music with tearout and riddim. His style was shaped by his father growing up– who often played Led Zeppelin and Talking Heads around the house– so it’s easy to see his rock influences. Svdden Death’s sets are often accompanied by blazing pyrotechnics, lasers, and haunting visuals, leaving a lasting impression for those who experience his performances.

Two-day GA passes for Breakaway Presents: Another World start at $165 and single-day tickets start at $89.
