Duke’s Mayo Classic: NC State Wolfpack vs. Tennessee Volunteers

Bank of America Stadium
800 S Mint St.
Charlotte, NC 28202

Tickets: $90 plus (Gametime: $80 plus)

The No. 14 Tennessee Volunteers will take on the No. 24 NC State Wolfpack in Charlotte this week in the Duke’s Mayo Classic. The SEC/ACC showdown is a key non-conference matchup for both teams that will be nationally televised on ABC.

The Volunteers are coming off a dominant 69-3 victory over the Chattanooga Mocs in their season opener, as Tennessee’s offense accumulated 718 total yards with 304 yards on the ground. Redshirt freshman (and five-star recruit) quarterback Nico Iamaleava threw for 313 yards and three touchdowns, while running back Dylan Sampson rushed for 124 yards and three scores.

The Wolfpack also started their season with a win, but struggled to pull away from Western Carolina, needing a 21-point fourth quarter to secure a 38-21 victory. Indian Trail native and Coastal Carolina transfer quarterback Grayson McCall threw for 318 yards and three touchdowns, while running back Jordan Waters added 123 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries. Charlotte native, Julius L. Chambers graduate, and reigning ACC Rookie of the Year wide receiver, Kevin Concepcion, also had a stellar game with nine catches, 121 receiving yards, and three touchdowns.

Concepcion’s high school teammate, James Pearce Jr., a four-star recruit and sophomore defensive lineman for the Volunteers, will also look to make an impact rushing the quarterback in his return home to Charlotte.

Tennessee enters the game as a 7.5-point favorite over NC State. This will be the first meeting between the two teams since 2012 in Atlanta (Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game), when the Volunteers beat the Wolfpack 35-21.
