Pulitzer Prize-winning creator of The 1619 Project, Nikole Hannah-Jones, will be in Charlotte this week to discuss The 1619 Project. A long-form journalistic work focusing on subjects of slavery and the founding of the United States by the New York Times staff writer, Hannah-Jones will lead a discussion on the impact of The 1619 Project, and timely topics ahead of the upcoming elections. In 2023, Hulu released a six-part docuseries based on works, hosted by Hannah-Jones and executive produced by Oprah Winfrey.
Hannah-Jones is a MacArthur Fellowship recipient and a Peabody Award-winner, who has spent her career investigating racial inequality and injustice. The event is a part of the Gantt’s 50th anniversary programming this year to spark conversations that inspire, empower, and enlighten.
