Gorillaz, the English alternative rock/hip-hop group created by multi-instrumentalist and producer Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett in 1998, has announced a North American tour with Little Simz and Deltron 3030, coming to Charlotte’s Spectrum Center on September 23.

This will be the group’s first-ever show in North Carolina, following the release of their latest album, ‘The Mountain,’ which leans into international sounds with contributions in multiple languages (English, Arabic, Hindi, Spanish, Yoruba) — a blend of world music and psychedelic pop.

The virtual band consists of four fictional members: 2-D (vocals, keyboards, melodica), Murdoc Niccals (bass guitar), Noodle (guitar, keyboards, backup vocals), and Russel Hobbs (drums). They are Grammy and Brit Award winners who have pushed musical and multimedia boundaries, blending animation with real music and pioneering new forms of fan engagement throughout their 25-plus-year career.

Simbiatu “Simbi” Abisola Abiola Ajikawo, the British rapper best known by her stage name Little Simz, will open the show in Charlotte along with Deltron 3030, the legendary hip-hop trio composed of producer Dan the Automator, Del the Funky Homosapien, and DJ Kid Koala, best known for their collaboration with Gorillaz, “Clint Eastwood.”

Citi cardmembers will have first access to presales beginning Wednesday, March 4 at 12 p.m., and tickets will go on sale to the public Monday, March 9 at 10 a.m.
