Founder of Soul Gastrolounge, Andy Kastanas, introduces a new event, Soul Sessions, celebrating the music that defined the iconic restaurant in Plaza Midwood. The party will feature DJ sets by house legend Timmy Regisford (founder and resident DJ at Club Shelter in New York City), Athens, Greece deep house innovator DJ Pascal (aka Holy Deep), and longtime Soul Gastrolounge resident DJ, Steve Howerton. Guests will also be able to enjoy some of the signature craft cocktails offered at Soul Gastrolounge, prior to the restaurant’s reopening later this year.

Opened in 2009 on the corner of Central Avenue and Pecan Street in Plaza Midwood on the top floor of the historic Long’s Grocery, Soul Gastrolounge was one of Charlotte’s first tapas and craft cocktail restaurants, quickly becoming a beloved establishment in the city.

“While we’re rebuilding our restaurant at The Pass in North NoDa, I wanted to bring our music and craft cocktail experience back to the neighborhood where we began, to gather and share an evening looking forward to our new home opening this year,” said Kastanas. 

The Long Room, located on 1111 Central Avenue in Plaza Midwood, is a unique 2,800-square-foot event space opened in 2023. Founded by performing artist Matthew Seneca and former Charlotte Ballet principal dancer Sarah Hayes Harkins, the refurbished 1953 building features high ceilings, aged brick and concrete walls, a viewing balcony that overlooks the primary event space, state-of-the-art hardwood dance floor, and professional-grade theatrical lighting and sound system.

Soul Sessions will take place on Saturday, May 25 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. at The Long Room, and tickets are $30.
