Tre Ahmad
Landing somewhere between hip-hop, R&B and pop, Tre Ahmad’s debut album, The Bedroom Popstar, balances braggadocious confidence with uncompromising vulnerability. With topics ranging from sexuality to mental health, Ahmad packs a powerful punch with tracks like “Davis Regional” and “Therapy,” while also giving way to more subtle vibe-ready songs like “Pressure” and “Maria.” Ahmad has released multiple singles this year, including “Encoer” and “Future,” the latter of which was accompanied by a music video directed by the Kovasckitz Brothers.
Dhemo (pronounced “demo”) is a Richmond, Virginia-based indie rock band that released their debut album, To Be In Reverse, in 2020, followed by their sophomore album, Spinning In Place, in 2022. The band consists of singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Dhemo, accompanied by Nathanael Clark (sax, keys), Ryan Gary (bass), and Alec Gary (drums).
Nia J’s debut EP, Rabbit Hole, released in 2021, is a whimsical exploration of life’s complexities. The sultry R&B album finds Nia J traversing topics of sexuality, love, and anxiety, building up layers of alluring harmonies atop delicate production. This year, she has released multiple singles, including “Lemonade,” “Fan Girl,” and “GWHF.”
