Highlights include Musical Theatre Night on Tuesday featuring characters from Wicked, pre-game performances by The Stolen Bases on Wednesday, and Thirsty Thursday drink specials with live music from Bullfrog Moon. The Wings of Hip Hop Spaceflight, featuring renowned hip-hop journalist, activist, and Public Enemy collaborator Harry Allen. Currently serving as an MLK Visiting Scholar at MIT, Allen will discuss his ambitious Hip-Hop Deep Space Monument project, an effort to curate and preserve 50 to 100 of the genre’s most essential recordings in a time capsule destined for deep space. Black Girls Film Camp (BGFC) returns to Charlotte this weekend for a multi-day celebration of film, storytelling, and Black girl creativity across venues including the NASCAR Hall of Fame, Harvey B. Gantt Center, ImaginOn, Middle C Jazz, and Independent Picture House. The weekend features free community screenings honoring filmmaker Christine Swanson, including The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel (June 25) and Albany Road (June 26), alongside the Fire Stories series at the Gantt with conversations featuring Angela Nissel, Laiya St. Clair, and Kimberlé Crenshaw, all centered on narrative, identity, and social change. Friday includes the Premiere Opening Night “Wild Dreams, Wild West” party at Dilworth Neighborhood Grille with the 2026 cohort filmmakers and a screening of Carolina Cowboys. Saturday highlights include a Jazz & Breakfast conversation with Vanessa Bell Calloway, the Alumni Film Fest and industry panels at ImaginOn, and a fireside chat with Christine Swanson, before culminating in the Premiere Screening and Awards Gala at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, where the 2026 cohort’s original films debut. Founded as a national filmmaking incubator for teen girls, BGFC provides full production support, mentorship, and industry access to emerging filmmakers, culminating in its annual premiere weekend showcase.

As part of Black Girls Film Camp, The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel (2020) screens on Thursday at the Independent Picture House. Directed by Christine Swanson and executive produced by Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, and Missy Elliott, the 108-minute biographical drama tells the story of five sisters who, guided by their mother, Dr. Mattie Moss Clark, rise from humble beginnings in Detroit to become the highest-selling gospel group in music history.
