Khalid returns to Charlotte this week on his It’s Always Summer Somewhere Tour, bringing a career-spanning set featuring hits like “Location,” “Young Dumb & Broke,” “Better,” and “Talk.” Since releasing his debut album, American Teen, in 2017, Khalid has earned multiple Grammy nominations and topped the Billboard 200 with Free Spirit in 2019. Opening the show is Lion Babe, the New York-based neo-soul, funk, and electronic duo consisting of vocalist Jillian Hervey and producer Lucas Goodman. Families, aspiring engineers, and LEGO® enthusiasts can explore the creative process behind some of the world’s most impressive brick-built sculptures in Brick Masters Studio: Build with LEGO® Bricks Like a Pro, on display at Discovery Place Science through September 7. Created by Sean Kenney, the exhibition features more than 100 sculptures constructed from over two million LEGO® pieces. Produced by Imagine, with science content developed by Science North, the exhibit explores the intersection of art, science, design, and engineering. Following the release of her sixth studio album To Whom This May Concern, Jill Scott makes her long-awaited return to Charlotte this week at Belk Theater. The Grammy-winning singer, who rose from spoken-word poetry circles to become one of neo-soul’s defining voices, first broke through after being discovered by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson of The Roots, a connection that led to her co-writing the Grammy-winning “You Got Me.” She released her debut album Who Is Jill Scott?: Words and Sounds Vol. 1 in 2000, which went platinum and launched a celebrated trilogy of albums that helped shape the neo-soul movement. The Charlotte Crown are coming off back-to-back wins following Sunday’s 78-74 victory over the Savannah Steel, with Schaquilla Nunn leading Charlotte with 17 points and nine rebounds. The Crown enter the week at 3-6 but have looked significantly improved in recent games, thanks in part to much-needed frontcourt help from former Winthrop standout Nunn, who is averaging 19.5 points and 9.5 rebounds over her last two games. Charlotte’s former Tar Heel Deja Kelly has also been an integral part of the team all season, averaging 15.2 points per game (fifth in the league) and 4.9 assists (leading the league).
